This week...
Well, it's been about a week or so since I first published this website. Something about me would prefer to still have the web files directly on my computer first, but having the Neocities built-in editor makes a lot of sense and is more convenient when working across different computers. I already had to change one of the upper navigation bar links, that being Files -> Links. Well okay, it's still the same page at heart - but it's been re-named and expanded as it makes more sense, especially given my current webhost where I'm not hosting downloads directly on-site.
Now, I'm already feeling the need to add another section to the navbar, that being Blog. I don't think it's a good idea to have the blog hidden underneath My Documents if that's one of the main things I'm using this website for - My Documents would be better served for project writeups or guides or whatever.
Most of the entries in My Documents are already blog-like anyway, as they are archives of posts from both my 2021 Blogger page, and the failed Twitter clone known as Cohost - so I suppose it would make sense if I moved them over to a potential Blog section of the website as well. Not sure yet, I gotta see what would work best for this site's navigation.
Also, I put a bit of work into an article that I unfortunately will not be able to finish... it's a writeup on the Panasonic VT60 series of Plasma TV's. The TC-P60VT60 I got from The Dump™ gives off a 6-red-blinks error code, and while that can be fixed by repairing or replacing the SC board, God knows how worn the panel already is - so that will unfortunately have to go back to the place I found it. Bummer, but also a relief at the same time since we really don't have the space for me to bring home stuff like that. I'll find a place for the scrapped article to go - it's currently underneath the main folder, because I was unsure where it was going to go.
Anything else worth mentioning? My sleep has been pretty out of whack as of recent, not just at the times I'm awake and asleep, but also how long I'm up and doing what. Yesterday I was tired after 6 hours of being awake even though I literally hadn't done anything that day... but I suppose that's it. Nothing to make me tired, but also nothing to energize me either. I was able to scrap together the energy to go to Micro Center because I was in a bit of a peripheral tryout mood - particularly with keyboard switches. I was running Keychron (Cherry MX clone) Brown switches in my keyboard, a Keychron C3 Pro, and have had the itch for switches I can type faster with and also are more linear. I tried out whatever keyboards were on display, and even some switches that were packaged in such a way that I could open the container and try them... though even that can only bring you so far. The only way to really know what switches you like is to bring them home and install them in a keyboard yourself.
I ended up coming home with a 45-pack of Akko Fairy Silent switches. I thought they would be interesting to try, and see (or rather, hear) just how silent they actually are in practice... they do at least live up to their name, whatever I can hear while typing with these switches is mostly from the keyboard itself... the C3 Pro has a somewhat cheap plastic exterior, and uses gasket mounting that has quite a bit of flex. While the minimal noise is pretty nice during quiet hours, I'm really not a fan of these switches to be honest. They're mushy and are more fatiguing on my fingers than the Brown switches are. Half of my keys are still using the brown switches 45 keys is only just enough for the letters, numbers, arrow keys, and a few modifier keys like Tab, Shift, Enter, Backspace, and the Spacebar.
Also, my keycaps are pretty worn out and are bothering me. the C3 Pro, prior to the introduction of the 8K model, shipped with ABS keycaps - which have worn down quite a lot after only a year of use. Actually, even within 6 months they were already wearing down. I need to get a new set of PBT keycaps that have shine-through legends, and then I'll return the Akko Fairy Silent switches and get some red-like switches instead. The Akko Rosewoods caught my attention due to their light actuation force, so maybe I will try some of those for my next keycap set. I really don't want to take apart this keyboard more times than is necessary though, so until I get my new keycaps in, I'm going to keep using the Fairy Silents.
